A Wolf's Garden

I came upon this cicada fresh out of it’s old exoskeleton… to which it is seen here clinging. The light green color of this large insect denotes it’s vulnerability and soft “shell”… at least for the next few hours until it hardens up. I find empty cicada husks all over the yard, which is evidence of their perpetual presence in the landscape… but every 17 years these bugs come out in force and literally cover everything. I wonder how far off we are from one of those years…….
